The IHS Studbook

The IHSGB hold the definitive stud book of pure bred Icelandic horses in the United Kingdom, which is linked to World Fengur, the international database of Icelandic horses.

The IHSGB is a Passport Issuing Organisation, authorised by DEFRA. We provide passports for pure-bred Icelandic horses - contact the Stud Book Registrar for further info. IHSGB also provides data on Icelandic horses to the National Equine Database.

A horse is not a registered Icelandic unless it holds a passport from an Icelandic horse breed society such as the IHSGB or any other FEIF-recognised organisation. Only registered Icelandics can take part in most IHS events. To be registered, horses must be able to trace their ancestry in an unbroken line back to Iceland.
