Ever since the settlement of Iceland in the 9th century, and well into the 20th century, the horse was so vital to the Icelanders in their daily work, travel and transport that it would have been all but impossible to live in Iceland without the horse. The horse now has a new role to play, as an indispensable companion. For thousands of Icelanders, equestrianism is not only a leisure pursuit, but a lifestyle.
In this book, the Icelandic horse is followed around the country. The relationship of horse and man is explored: the autumn sheep-round-up, and horseback treks. We learn about the freedom of the horse herds in the upland wilderness, and see unique images of a mare as she foals surrounded by green nature, cleans up and suckles her foal, and helps it take its first unsteady steps.
The author of the book, Anna Fjóla Gísladóttir, has enjoyed the company of horses since childhood, and is well known for her fine photographs of this remarkable creature. The photographs in this book are the fruit of decades of work on this demanding yet captivating theme.

In this DVD Benedikt Líndal opens up his training station in Iceland and allows the audience to follow him and his work with several horses through a single training season.
Here he continues from where he left off in his last video on basic training and starting horses, and in here he shows the audience different effective ways in advanced training. Amongst other things the importance of versatility is stressed, gait training, how to create a good atmosphere in order to keep the horse happy and enthusiastic with improved results, the correct use of Icelandic curb bits and much more.
By building up mutual trust and respect and by using methods that the horse understands the foundation for cooperation is laid and it will become easier to find the best in each horse, whether it be a competition horse or a family horse.
The goal of the training process is that the horse be well trained, supple and soft, light on the bit, sensitive, physically strong and secure in the different gaits.
